Talia and Lynch's Delta raid rescuing Romy

Of Fates & Fables (The Complete Series)

Talia and Lynch's Delta raid rescuing Romy is the turning point that ends Romy’s captivity in Delta house and puts her escape in motion. Talia reaches her first, masked and ready to fight; Lynch follows, and together they overcome the guards and get Romy out. The rescue is more than a change of location: it restores Romy to trusted allies after an ordeal that has left her injured, exhausted, and still in danger.

Captivity and the Rescue

Romy wakes alone in a windowless, dark room, lying on a cement floor amid the smell of mildew and decay. Hunger, dehydration, and dizziness make even slight movement difficult. By the time Talia reaches her, Romy has endured a week or more of captivity and has been hurt by Brody, whom she bitterly identifies as the source of her pain. Justice is there too, but his presence cannot erase Romy’s sense of betrayal or the danger of remaining in Brody’s hands.

The Raid and Escape

The rescue begins as another attack: a masked figure bursts into the room, and Romy charges before she recognizes Talia. Talia pulls up her black ski mask and reveals herself with a grin. The reversal briefly turns Romy’s fight for survival into an encounter with her closest friend, but danger remains close: Justice is beginning to stir, and Talia silences him with the collapsible baton she draws from her boot.

Lynch arrives moments later, angry that Talia ignored his plan to enter first. Their argument exposes the difference between his attempt to control the rescue and Talia’s determination to save Romy on her own terms. Talia offers Romy a hand, while Romy urges them to hurry before the others return. Talia says the two guards in the hallway are no longer a threat; Lynch soon confirms it by returning with Derek and Zac unconscious, one slung over each shoulder. Derek’s knee is broken, and pieces of metal protrude from Zac’s shoulders and neck. Lynch explains that Talia took out the attackers while he was still climbing out of the motorcycle’s sidecar.

Once outside the room, Romy pauses to retrieve the books Justice brought her, stuffing them into her backpack before rejoining her friends. Talia locks the werebros inside and pushes a framed, sexually provocative version of Uncle Sam’s recruitment poster back into place, revealing that Romy’s hiding place had been concealed behind it. The group cannot linger: Talia insists they must get Romy to the Somerville pack lands, believing she may be the only person able to stop Kash from tearing the world apart.

The escape is still exposed to pursuit. A howl carries across the area, and Romy realizes Brody knows she is gone. Talia readies her motorcycle, with Romy riding behind her and Justice fitted with a helmet and goggles. They race away as Romy hangs on; she has to zap Justice three more times during the ride. At the familiar one-lane road leading toward Kash’s pack land, Talia takes the left fork rather than the expected right turn toward the main house, leaving their destination uncertain even as they escape the immediate threat.

The Cost of Escape

The reunion does not make Romy’s injuries disappear. Talia takes in their extent and asks whether Romy is well enough to leave before the others return. Romy answers with sobs as the past week or more catches up with her; Talia sinks to the floor with her, wraps her arms around her, and smooths her hair. The pause makes clear that escape requires both speed and care: Romy is still distressed, and the rescuers have to move without pretending she is unharmed.

Later, the effects of captivity remain present in the simplest acts of care. When Kash offers to help Romy out of her clothes, he stops at her refusal and offers to ask Talia or Anna instead. Romy explains that she wants the clothes off but cannot lift her arms over her head. The exchange preserves her choice over who helps her while showing how badly the ordeal has limited her movement. In another quiet bedroom, Birdie examines the scrape on Romy’s neck where Derek’s teeth struck her, at Kash’s request. The rescue has carried Romy out of the locked room, but her injuries still require attention, and the threat of transformation has not yet been resolved.

From Rescue to Resistance

The raid changes Romy’s immediate circumstances, not the scale of the danger. Talia’s decision to take her toward the Somerville pack lands places her amid the conflict over Brody’s power, and the escape becomes a threshold between surviving captivity and confronting the system that made it possible. Romy’s injuries persist, but so does her insistence on being treated as a person with choices: when Kash offers help changing, he stops at her refusal and offers to bring Talia or Anna instead. Her inability to lift her arms makes the damage concrete, while the offered alternatives leave control of care with her. Birdie later examines the scrape on Romy’s neck where Derek’s teeth struck her, evidence that the threat of transformation has followed her out of the locked room.

Romy’s later actions give the rescue a wider significance without making it a simple cure for what she endured. Before the Council, she objects when its members propose interviewing the captive women before acting, naming the kidnapping, forced transformation, and repeated rape they have already suffered. At the pack’s war gathering, she argues that the Council’s hesitation will not decide their response and that the fight is theirs to win; the pack cheers, and Doyle calls her boss lady. In the battle, she uses compulsion to take Brody’s knife and cuts through his Delta tattoo, releasing murky green magic and weakening his hold on the wolves, though not enough to free them completely. When Kash pins Brody, Romy takes the same knife and drives it into his exposed throat. The rescue does not erase captivity; it marks the point from which Romy can move with allies beside her and take an active part in resisting the violence that began in that locked room.
